Whats the best way to handle Home Insurance Claim Adjusters during damage estimate of my house?
Recent tornado winds and heavy rains have damaged my shingles and caused water to leak through to one bedroom ceiling!
I've heard much about how they do their best to keep from paying you for damage! I just want to know my rights. Farmers Insurance is my coverage. Thanks

Attention home insurance claims adjusters?
Our city, Cincinnati, was hit by a large wind storm last week - 80 mph winds from hurricane Ike remnants. Almost one million homes and business were without power for days - we had no power for 4 days and now need a new roof. A claims adjuster(State Auto) came out and we are waiting for the check . We also have up to $1000 in food replacement. (We lost everything in our fridge and deep freezer.)My question is: How carefully do they look at the receipts? For example do they look at/care about whether you are buying lobster or ground beef? Should it all be on one receipt? They did say that because this was such a large catastrophic event, that a claim would not effect our future rates. Just curious if they care what you are buying. I know it needs to be perishable type items...
Edit: Thx for the response. Yes, I realize rates do go up overall when large events occur and does eventually effect all policyholders.. I was referring to our individual policy taking a hit because of the claim...
Please don't assume that we are taking advantage of the situation. $1000 may see like alot to some people, but not to us. A 20 sq foot freezer holds(held...) a lot of meat.
The question still remains: Do they actually go through the receipt and read each item or do they only... look at see if its a grocery item?

Can someone submit a home insurance claim ...?
If the insurance has just been cancel led and the event occurred in the past while the policy was still on?
I am submitting a claim for a purchase protection of an event occurred in the past, 2 months ago, at the moment my Home insurance policy was still valid and now my other insurance Company is telling me my home insurance Company should reimburse me for some of that , but I cancel led my home insurance policy 4 days ago, can I still submit a claim to my home insurance?
Thank you Valerie, I bought a laptop with my platinum Amex card and it was stolen at the mall while going out of the store... I never thought Home Insurance would have something to do with that but it turns out that they just "may". Amex reimbursed me for 20% of the price of the item I bought, they said my Home Insurance should reimburse me for the rest and I cancelled my policy 4 days ago. The event happened 2 months ago ,,, that is why I was wondering if im completely broke heheh or I can still get some help
